A man is now facing multiple charges after an incident on Saturday night that involved dragging a Michigan State Trooper and putting a child at risk. As reported by FOX 17, the altercation ensued during a response to a domestic assault linked to a child custody dispute at about midnight in Butler Township.
Michigan State Police found the 26-year-old suspect with a one-month-old baby inside his vehicle. Upon attempting to arrest the man, he decided to abruptly flee, dragging a trooper from his vehicle for approximately 10 feet. The trooper sustained minor leg injuries during the event. According to WOODTV, authorities chose not to pursue the vehicle immediately in the interest of the infant's safety.
The suspect's car was spotted a short distance away but he sped off once again leading across into Hillsdale County. The quick response from the police led to the apprehension of the suspect at a residence within 30 minutes, ensuring no further escalation of the situation. MLive noted that the baby was unharmed and was safely returned to its mother following the incident.
The man is now expected to be charged with domestic violence, child endangerment, resisting and obstructing police causing injury, and fleeing and eluding. "Troopers say the baby was unharmed and returned to its mother," as per details obtained by FOX 17. With the ongoing investigation, further details are awaited to shed more light on the circumstances that led to such a hazardous confrontation.
