In a show of unity, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors has approved a resolution aimed at strengthening data governance and promoting greater transparency within county affairs. As reported in the county's news release on Thursday, the resolution received unanimous support, signaling that data oversight is a shared concern among local leaders.
"This resolution is a call to action for all departments and elected offices to collaborate in creating a culture of innovation and trust," said Supervisors Patti Logsdon and Anne O’Connor, the architects behind the measure, according to the official news release. Among the initiatives highlighted in the resolution are streamlined data sharing, standardized data governance policies, public access to data for improved engagement, and the adoption of innovative, data-driven strategic solutions.
The mandate also calls for regular updates on the progress of these initiatives, ensuring accountability and keeping the public looped into the county's advancements. These updates, as noted in the same release, will be provided by the Department of Administrative Services – Information Management Services Division (DAS-IMSD), together with various other departments.
A noteworthy aspect of the resolution is its focus on capacity building, giving county staff the necessary tools and training for effective data analysis and decision-making. "Data Sharing: Ensuring timely access to accurate and relevant data across County operations," read a segment from the release, highlighting one of the primary objectives of this new policy. It's a step expected to refine service delivery and operational efficiency, while simultaneously fortifying public trust—a goal that an array of county supervisors, including Felesia A. Martin, Kathleen Vincent, Deanna Alexander, Shawn Rolland, Sky Z. Capriolo, and Jack Eckblad, have rallied behind.
With broad support illustrated in its unanimous approval, the resolution now awaits the consideration of Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. If endorsed by the executive, these measures could set a precedent for other counties across the nation in the realms of data transparency and governance. The resolution stands as a testament to Milwaukee County's commitment to health equity, operational excellence, and public accountability, aiming to utilize data efficiently to serve the community's needs more effectively.
