The National Weather Service (NWS) in Milwaukee is alerting residents to frigid conditions today, with morning wind chills plunging to as low as -12 degrees Fahrenheit.
Northwest gusts have been barreling through, reaching speeds up to 40 mph along the lakefront since dawn; the city is wrapped in a wintery grip, one that has us layering up and bracing against the chill as we trudge through our morning routines, the cold an omnipresent bite at any exposed skin. Despite the sun deigning to make an appearance, high temperatures are only expected to reach 29 degrees, wind chills keeping the real-feel between a bone-chilling -5 and 5 degrees.
Milwaukeeans can look forward to a slight reprieve tonight with partly cloudy skies and temperatures hovering around 14 degrees; the winds are expected to slow to a more gentle 5 to 10 mph, offering some solace from the day's piercing gusts, according to NWS.
Looking ahead, the NWS forecasts increasing cloud cover tomorrow with highs near 30 degrees, the upcoming weekend shows promise with a sunny Saturday that could see temperatures hitting 40 degrees, a soft prelude to a warmer Sunday with highs near the 50s, the week however is set to close with a chance of rain hovering around 50 percent, suggesting that umbrellas may once again be fixtures in our hands as we navigate the capricious moods of Midwest weather.
For those meticulously tracking storm systems or plotting journeys, the NWS's Hazardous Weather Outlook specifies no alarming conditions expected from tomorrow through the following Wednesday beyond what has already been steady chattering teeth weather.
