Milwaukee residents are bracing for a bout of severe weather today, with the National Weather Service (NWS) issuing a Wind Advisory effective from the afternoon until midnight, as northwest winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with potential gusts up to a fierce 45 mph; the advisory covers a broad area including portions of east central, south central, and southeast Wisconsin.
According to the NWS Milwaukee forecast, the immediate concerns are scattered snow showers and powerful gusty winds beginning this afternoon, while the snowfall may not significantly accumulate, visibility could drop suddenly during these showers and as the wind howls, blowing snow could reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions especially for high profile vehicles—and don't even get me started on unsecured outdoor objects that might just take flight or tumble, and that's just the beginning as night falls temperatures are poised to plunge with wind chills nearing the -10 marker.
Tonight, Milwaukee will see an easing of precipitation, with the possibility of a few flurries before the sky clears, but the drop in temperature will be nothing short of brutal as the wind chill fluctuates between a bone-chilling -5 and 5 degrees. The blustery conditions are expected to persist, and the wind could make outdoor activities a challenging proposition, if not impossible, for those not adequately prepared for the severe cold snap.
Looking ahead, the NWS anticipates that the frigid conditions will persist, with sunny skies not offsetting the cold as tomorrow's high is forecasted near 27 degrees, coupled with similarly brisk northwest winds, maintaining the winter's grip on Wisconsin.
