The Minneapolis region gears up for a sequence of cloudy and rainy days, according to the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service. Starting today, the skies over Minneapolis will remain overcast, with temperatures nearing a high of 37 degrees. A southeast wind moving at a gentle 5 to 10 mph will accompany the cloud coverage, setting a tranquil yet gray canvas over the city.
As night falls, the likelihood of rain escalates to 40 percent, with predictions suggesting the precipitation will commence after midnight. The temperatures will drop slightly to a cozy 34 degrees amidst calm south southeast winds, according to the National Weather Service.
Friday will usher in more rain, predominantly post-noon, as the quaint southeast breeze continues to whisper through the city. An 80 percent chance of precipitation brings the potential for new rainfall between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Minnesotans might witness a slight reprieve from the fog before 7am, before the day reaches its high near 41 degrees. The following night, rain is likely primarily before midnight, while the temperatures hover around 35 degrees.
Moving into the weekend, there stands a 30 percent chance of rain on Saturday morning; however, the clouds are expected to part, gradually revealing more sunny spells as the high peaks at 41 degrees. The evening is anticipated to bring mostly cloudy skies with a low around 31. The NWS points out the presence of dense fog/freezing fog in certain areas across western and central Minnesota, indicating a need for caution during travel. These conditions seem to persist into early Friday before the rain sets in, though "SKYWARN spotter activation will not be needed," the National Weather Service's hazardous weather outlook clarifies.
Looking ahead, Sunday and New Year's Day offer partially sunny conditions with highs around 41 and 25 degrees, respectively. Nighttime temperatures might dip close to 28 on Sunday evening and even lower, to around 19 degrees, the ensuing Tuesday night. Overall, residents can expect a series of mostly cloudy days and the chance for rain and snow before the month's end, punctuating the final notes of December with nature's own symphony of precipitation.
