Residents in Minneapolis faced reduced visibility today, as a dense fog advisory remained in effect until noon, as per the National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN. Travelers were advised to exercise caution due to visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in some areas. Conditions were exacerbated wherever temperatures fell below freezing, leading to a deposition of freezing fog that created slippery spots on roads, "especially bridges and overpasses," according to the Hazardous Weather Conditions forecast.
Looking ahead, no hazardous conditions are expected post-advisory, from Monday through Saturday. The weather for Minneapolis will remain mostly cloudy, with patchy fog predicted for Monday before 1:00 P.M. and a slight chance of snow by next Saturday. High temperatures for the week are forecasted to hover in the mid-30s and gradually decrease to the low 20s and teens, dipping to a low of around 3 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday night. A 20 percent chance of snow is also on the horizon for next weekend, with "Partly sunny, with a high near 14. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon," noted the forecast.
The fog across central and southern Minnesota into western Wisconsin is expected to lift by the afternoon, but drivers were warned of potentially treacherous conditions throughout the morning. The National Weather Service stressed the need for motorists to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe distance from the car ahead to prevent accidents in the fog.
