On Christmas Day, NWS New Orleans predicts "a chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 3pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm." The high for the day is expected to be near 68°F with an east wind blowing at 5 to 10 mph. With a 70% chance of precipitation, New Orleans residents should be prepared for new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
As we move into the evening, there is a 40% probability of showers and thunderstorms, primarily before 9 pm, followed by patchy fog after 2 am. The temperatures will hover around a low of 60°F. In addition, the forecast for Thursday is showing a 30 percent chance of more showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon, with patchy fog anticipated to lift before 8 am.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the NWS alerts that Friday will carry a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon, giving way to partly sunny skies with a prominent high near 75°F. Come Saturday, showers are likely once again with the NWS detailing "Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73." There's a 70% chance of precipitation, suggesting New Orleans might be in for a wetter conclusion to the week.
Finally, as New Orleanians look towards the beginning of next week, NWS foretells a shift in the weather pattern. Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 69°F and a consistent west wind around 5 mph. Forecasters expect the weather to maintain mostly sunny conditions on Monday, with highs near 70°F and only a slight chance of showers come Monday night.
