Morganton Man Charged with DWI After Crashing Into Fire Station and Fleeing Hit-and-RunSource: Morganton Public Safety Department

A Morganton man faces multiple charges after he allegedly drove while impaired, plowing into a fire station garage and involving himself in a hit-and-run. Michael Joel Davis, 27, smashed through the garage door of Morganton Fire Station 3 and struck a fire truck Monday, outlined by officials. Hailed from WBTV report, Davis was "also accused of a hit-and-run at a Bojangles near the fire station."

Before the chaos at the fire station unfolded, Davis reportedly collided with another vehicle at Bojangles on Burkemont Avenue, based on information from the Morganton Department of Public Safety. The connection was quickly made between the two incidents as the vehicle that rammed the fire station matched the suspect vehicle description from the Bojangles incident.

Officials state that after Davis crashed into the fire station, he exited his car claiming "people were coming after him," a situation delineated by Queen City News. No injuries have been reported in either of the collisions. While the firetruck was not damaged, authorities are awaiting the estimated cost for the repair of the fire station's garage door.

Davis now faces a $2,000 secured bond with charges that include driving while impaired (DWI), hit-and-run, failure to report an incident, and careless and reckless driving. On scene, after being screened for impairment, his immediate concerns seemed to be of a different nature altogether, as Davis proclaimed an unfounded peril to his person that seemingly led to his arrest. Davis's first court appearance is set for March 7, 2025, as per the report by WBTV.
