A 27-year-old motorcyclist is fighting for his life in the hospital following a significant collision on the H-2 Freeway near Mililani last Saturday. According to Hawaii News Now, the crash occurred around 4:25 p.m. near the Leilehua Golf Course overpass.
The Honolulu Police Department reports that the motorcyclist was speeding southbound when he collided with a vehicle driven by a 53-year-old carrying five passengers. Traveling at a high rate of speed appears to be a primary factor in the incident, with the cyclist initially taken to the hospital in serious condition, but later reported to critical. For reasons unknown, the motorcyclist was without a helmet, which could have been critical during the time of the crash.
Remarkably, the driver and passengers of the automobile involved were not injured and stayed at the scene as police and emergency services responded, as stated by Hawaii News Now. The authorities have not mentioned whether the use of drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident.
In a similar report, KITV indicated that the victim of the crash, a 29-year-old man, was treated by paramedics at the scene for multiple injuries before being transported to a trauma hospital in critical condition.
An investigation into the collision remains ongoing, as both the Honolulu Police and traffic investigators piece together the events that led up to the incident.
