
The Metropolitan Police Department recently confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to a series of burglaries across the Northwest quadrant of the city. Identified as 58-year-old Donnell Washington of Northwest, DC, the suspect has been charged in connection to twelve burglaries and one incident of unlawful entry that primarily occurred in the Third and Fourth Districts, according to MPD's official release.
Washington's apprehension is the culmination of an investigation that tracked a consistent pattern of early morning break-ins spanning from April to October 2024. Among the establishments targeted were venues on 18th Street, Park Road, and Columbia Road. In what appears to be a targeted series of incidents, the suspect was reported to have to quickly taken property before fleeing the scene in each instance.
The string of offenses began with a burglary on April 21, where Washington allegedly entered a business in the 2000 block of 18th Street, Northwest. This was followed by further incidents on June 2, June 7, July 1, July 5, July 21, July 23, September 2, September 12, September 15, and October 21. Additionally, an attempt at unlawful entry was made on September 2 but did not result in the acquisition of property.
Alongside the string of burglaries, Washington is also facing charges for assaulting a Special Police Officer on September 17, as per the official record. The details of the assault have not been to fully emerge, but the incident occurred in the 3600 block of 16th Street, Northwest, showcasing a departure from the pattern of property crime that had characterized the rest of the suspect's activities.
Law enforcement officials from the MPD credited the diligent work of detectives, which resulted in the arrest last Saturday.
