MPD Investigates Fatal Hit-And-Run Involving Stolen Vehicle in Southeast Washington, D.C.Source: Metropolitan Police Department

A tragic hit-and-run incident in Southeast late Monday night is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The event, resulting in a fatality, unfolded just after 11 p.m. when a collision ensued as a Honda Civic turned left out of a driveway and was struck by a speeding Jeep Grand Cherokee along the 2600 block of Southern Avenue.

According to the MPD's statement, the driver of the Honda was ejected from their vehicle and, despite the efforts of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, later declared deceased at a local hospital. The jeep involved was later identified as stolen from Loudoun County, Virginia, earlier this month.

The suspect who was operating the Jeep at the time of the crash fled the scene on foot. Fortunately, surveillance cameras captured footage and still images of the individual, providing evidence for the ongoing investigation. The material has been made public in the hopes that community members might recognize and report any information relevant to the case, as per MPD.

The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Omar Davis, a resident of Forrest Heights, MD. The public is urged to come forward with any details that could lead to the apprehension of the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or send an anonymous tip through the MPD’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
