The landscape of Memorial City is set to undergo yet another transformation with the inception of Greenside, a development project poised to reconfigure an expanse of industrial buildings into a mixed-use center. According to an article by ABC13, Greenside is expected to introduce a variety of restaurants, retail stores, and family-oriented businesses to the growing vicinity adjacent to Memorial City Mall.
The 35,000-square-foot development, outlined in a report by Houston Public Media, is designed by the Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, a firm well-acquainted with the city's landscape. In an ambitious bid to seamlessly blend commerce with community spaces, Greenside is slated to feature an expanse of one-acre of verdant greenery, complete with a variety of seating arrangements and atmospheric lighting. The intent appears to squarely focus on creating a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment.
Partnership is key in this venture, with real estate firm Radom Capital and investment giant MetroNational at the helm. Together, the firms aim to reshape a slice of urban fabric by converting the northern stretch of I-10 at 1085 Gessner Road into a nexus for social and commercial activity. President and CEO of MetroNational, Jason Johnson, expressed a strong community-driven impetus behind the project. "The community continues to ask for more unique retail and restaurant offerings, and with the help of Radom Capital and Michael Hsu, we will deliver a one-of-a-kind offering to the Memorial City area with a great outdoor experience," Johnson said in a statement obtained by Houston Public Media. Construction is anticipated to commence in the spring of 2025, with tenant operations taking off the following year. For locals and visitors alike, the venture promises to augment the fabric of the city with a new focal point for commerce and leisure, set amidst the backdrop of urban renewal and innovative design.
