A harrowing encounter unfolded in Londonderry, New Hampshire, when 62-year-old Richard Currie was accused of menacing a family with a shotgun. Authorities apprehended Currie following a 911 call about a man brandishing a firearm and walking barefoot along Rockingham Road. The incident placed a mother and her four children in danger. As per a WCVB report, the commotion occurred around 8 p.m. last Saturday, when Currie confronted the family in their vehicle before running toward a Mobil gas station.
The Londonderry Police Department swiftly responded to the scene, locating Currie at the station, shotgun still in hand. He complied with officers' directives to drop his weapon and was detained. Currie later told police that he fired the shotgun within his own residence, alleging an invasion by several people. However, the police's search of Currie's home would later reveal that such a burglary was fabricated. According to a Boston25News statement, "Officers noted that the subject appeared intoxicated and had admitted to using illicit drugs."
Investigations at Currie's home uncovered evidence contradicting his claims, finding only to discover two expended shotgun shells and no signs of an actual home invasion. Currie now faces numerous charges, including reckless conduct with a firearm, criminal threatening with a firearm, disorderly conduct, and felon firearm possession, as affirmed in the police reports cited by WCVB. After the arrest, he was taken to the Parkland Medical Center for evaluation before being booked and held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections.
A judge subsequently set Currie's bail at $1,000 cash during his Monday arraignment. Now officially charged with five counts of reckless conduct with a firearm, among other accusations, Currie awaits the continuation of this tense situation as the authorities call for any additional witnesses to step forward with information. As stated by the Londonderry Police Department in a report from Boston25News, "An investigation is ongoing." Individuals with relevant details can reach out to Det.
