
The New Orleans Police Department has released its preliminary crime statistics for the final week of November 2024, highlighting a series of arrests and a notable decrease in gun seizures compared to the previous year. According to the New Orleans Police Department Analytics Unit's report, for the week of November 24-30, several arrests were made relating to illegal weapon possession.
Incidents included the apprehension of seven individuals last Sunday during a second line parade in the New Orleans Police Department's Second District, varying charges were placed on the suspects—ranging from carrying of concealed handguns during a parade to violation of a controlled dangerous substance in a school zone. Gun arrests for the year have dipped by 44 percent, from 713 in 2023 to 399 as of the current date in 2024.
Gun seizures have likewise seen a downturn; down 21 percent from last year's figure. The crime report states that the New Orleans Police Department has confiscated 2,002 firearms in the current year compared to 2,564 seizures made by the same time in 2023. These statistics reflect the department's ongoing efforts to address gun-related crimes in the city.
