West Oakland has witnessed the completion of the ArtHaus Chestnut residential project, a new addition to the neighborhood's housing market at 2432 Chestnut Street. The project, developed by Riaz Capital, opened its doors, featuring 60 residences spread across three newly constructed structures, each boasting a height of 40 feet and spanning three floors.
According to SFYimby, the complex offers an array of studio residences, four townhome units per structure, and each townhouse hosting five studio apartments. Aimed at accommodating modern urban dwellers, the development includes a small parking lot for 12 cars alongside dedicated bicycle parking, acknowledging the transportation preferences of the local community.
Riaz Capital has a history of similar concept projects, vying to cater to the needs of single-income professionals and students. "Each of these residences is completely furnished and comes with a private bathroom and kitchenette including a sink and refrigerator," Lisa Vilhauer, Riaz Capital’s Vice President of Design & Entitlement, told SFYimby. Vilhauer drew parallels to past projects such as ArtHaus Brush, ArtHaus Mandela, and ArtHaus Magnolia.
In a post on their LinkedIn page, Riaz Capital expressed their pride in bringing ArtHaus Chestnut to fruition. The project is a part of the company's 2019 Opportunity Zone Fund, emphasizing their dedication to accessible and sustainable living conditions. "ArtHaus Chestnut embodies everything we stand for at Riaz Capital: thoughtful design, urban accessibility, and innovative solutions that make modern living attainable," the company posted on LinkedIn. By providing a seamless move-in experience, utilities, Wi-Fi, and amenities like secure bike storage and on-site parking, the development is posed as an exemplar of community-focused urban housing.
Located conveniently along Chestnut Street and near public transportation, residents of ArtHaus Chestnut will find themselves less than ten minutes from the 19th Street BART Station via AC Transit or a mere seven minutes by bicycle. In blending the design impulses from nearby industrial warehouses with the facade materials inspired by local housing, the project stands as a testament to Riaz Capital's commitment to integrating practical living solutions within the urban fabric of West Oakland.
