On Sunday, a North Las Vegas man, Markeem Benson, confessed to the murder of his girlfriend, Renise Wolfe, after a family holiday event. According to an arrest report from FOX5 Vegas, police responded to a call from Benson's father, who indicated his son wished to surrender himself for the crime voluntarily. Benson allegedly told officers about a dispute with Wolfe that escalated into a struggle over a gun, resulting in her death.
Benson, who initially tried to make sense of the situation to his brother and father over the phone, then allowed police to access his apartment, where Wolfe was found with multiple gunshot wounds. "I killed her, I think I killed her," Benson is said to have told his father, as per the police report obtained by FOX5 Vegas. Local authorities discovered that the altercation and shooting had taken place hours earlier, around 1:20 a.m., information that was captured on a doorbell camera showing several loud pops.
Further details provided by News 3 LV reveal that Benson, after the shooting, dozed off and did not contact law enforcement until later that morning. Wolfe's relatives described to the police how an initial interaction at the family gathering took a turn when Benson spotted another party attendee. This event might have led to the subsequent tragic incident.
Police records also indicated that Benson was alleged to have been possessive in the relationship with Wolfe, and the couple had a history of physical altercations. After the authorities located both a gun and a magazine near the crime scene, Benson chose not to provide further details to the detectives. He is now being held without bail at the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center, with a felony arraignment hearing set for Thursday morning, details News 3 LV.
