In what culminates a significant crackdown on drug trafficking in Ohio, Mexican national Ronald Rendon-Luna, 37, was sentenced to over 12 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute a staggering amount of deadly drugs, including more than 240 pounds of fentanyl and nearly 100 pounds of cocaine, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio.

Rendon-Luna, who resided in Painesville, Ohio, entered a guilty plea for the conspiracy, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and firearms possession by an alien, and following his plea, U.S. District Chief Judge Sara Lioi dealt him a 151-month prison term, with a subsequent three-year supervised release, during the investigation by the FBI-Cleveland Division's Cartel, Gangs, Narcotics and Laundering Task Force it was discovered that from about June 2022, Ronald Rendon-Luna, in collaboration with Nefer Ojeda-Elenes who was acknowledged as the head of the operation, utilized residences and storage units in multiple cities to stash drugs and cash flow resulting from their sale and that the organization was behind the distribution of about 111 kilograms of fentanyl and approximately 42 kilograms of cocaine.

This complex investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies, eventually leading to the seizure of large quantities of these substances and several weapons, including an AK-47 and an AR-15, from Rendon-Luna’s home, "These criminals used their Mexican Cartel connections to bring millions of doses of fentanyl—each one potentially fatal—into our communities and distribute those poisons across our state,” U.S. Attorney Rebecca Lutzko was quoted in the official press release.

The coordinated efforts underscore the mission of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Cleveland Strike Force, aiming to disrupt and dismantle significant criminal networks, cartels, and other groups posing a threat to public safety and national security by engaging in illicit trafficking of narcotics and other controlled substances; as part of this initiative, this case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Bullard for the Northern District of Ohio.

Rendon Luna’s co-conspirators have faced the justice system as well, with Ojeda-Elenes receiving a sentence of 228 months, Cameron Harris sentenced to an identical 151 months, and Trino Alexander Briceno-Matheus sentenced to 30 months for their respective roles in the drug-trafficking scheme that deeply scarred the communities affected by their actions.
