Attorney General Gentner Drummond has opposed voice service providers allowing their networks to be used for suspected illegal robocall traffic targeting Oklahomans. Drummond, along with 50 other attorneys general in the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, has issued warnings to four companies identified in their investigations. "Illegal robocalls go beyond creating a nuisance," Drummond said in an announcement from the Attorney General's Office, "Oftentimes they are scams designed to steal personal or financial information from anyone who answers the call. These companies are on notice that illegal robocall activity will not be tolerated.”

These warnings highlight a push to address practices that have led to millions of scam attempts on Americans. The task force sent letters to providers like KWK Communications, Inc., which reportedly routed over 20,000 calls with illegally spoofed numbers in one month of 2022. Inbound Communications Inc., another provider targeted, allegedly allowed more than 28.4 million scam robocalls related to DirecTV and cable discount schemes during the same period. The Federal Trade Commission had previously issued a cease-and-desist demand to Inbound for these activities.

Others implicated by the task force include AKA Management Inc., and CallVox LLC, both of which received traceback notices warning them of suspicious activity on their networks.

Notably, KWK Communications received at least 129 traceback notices between 2020 and 2022, which included a large volume of IRS and Social Security Administration scams. AKA Management was similarly flagged for around 12.1 million Amazon and Apple imposter robocalls to consumers in just one month.

The full list of findings and warnings issued is detailed in the Attorney General's Office announcement.
