As Oklahoma City gears up for the Christmas holiday, a recent announcement details the schedule changes residents can expect for city services. According to the City of Oklahoma City's official news release, on Christmas Eve, December 24, there will be no interruptions to regular trash or recycling pickup, and the OKC Streetcar, buses, and OKC PLUS will run on regular schedules; however, the EMBARK Transit Center Customer Service and 235-RIDE Call Center will operate with reduced hours from 8 am to 4 pm, and the EMBARK’S Mobility Management will be closed.
Several city offices and facilities will not open on Christmas Eve, including the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, Animal Welfare, and the Municipal Court pay window — though residents can still manage payments online at okc.gov. OKC Parks recreation centers, community centers, gyms, and senior centers are closed, yet the city’s outdoor parks maintain their 5 am to 11 pm hours, Martin Park Nature Center's outdoor grounds greet guests from 7 am to 5 pm, and Will Rogers Gardens along with the Ed Lycan Conservatory offer open outdoor grounds varying from 8 am to 5 pm, as reported by the City of Oklahoma City.
The Christmas Day schedule, released on December 19, also underscores some adjustments, with trash, recycling, and bulky waste pickups following the usual route, and RAPID, OKC Streetcar, and bus services available for free fares, RAPID operating on a 30-minute frequency from 7 am to midnight, the OKC buses on a weekend timetable, and the OKC Streetcar running on a reduced schedule between 11 am and 7 pm; OKC PLUS will have reduced service hours from 8 am to 4 pm. City offices, the EMBARK centers, and other previously mentioned services remain closed, consistent with the prior day, as detailed by the City of Oklahoma City.
As one glances toward the broader holiday impact, OKC Parks community centers, performing arts centers, gyms, and senior centers will be closed for a span beginning Monday, December 23, through Friday, January 3, and OKC Parks recreation centers, and senior centers are slated to close additional from Tuesday, December 24 through Wednesday, January 1, inhabitants of the City of Oklahoma City can expect a short hiatus from these communal resources as they, too, usher in the season's festivities and the coming new year.
