A multi-vehicle collision in York County has left one pedestrian dead, as reported in varying details by three different news outlets. At around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, a Nissan Altima struck a stationary Honda Ridgeline along South Carolina Highway 5 near Estate Drive. This initial impact caused a series of events, further involving a Jeep Cherokee that was also stopped on the highway. The Jeep flipped over and tragically struck two pedestrians who were standing on the median, according to coverage by WBTV.
Following the crash, the injured pedestrians were taken to a hospital. Unfortunately, one of them succumbed to their injuries yesterday. The victims' names and the conditions of the surviving individuals, including the drivers of the Jeep and Nissan and a passenger within the Nissan, have not been made public yet. The South Carolina Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident, has so far not indicated if charges will be brought against anyone involved in the crash, as noted by WCNC.
In a related report by WSOCTV, the two vehicles, a 2024 Honda Ridgeline and a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, are described as having been disabled and stopped on the southbound side of Highway 5 before being struck by the 2015 Nissan Altima. This resulted in the Honda colliding into the Jeep and the consequent flipping of the Jeep that led to the pedestrians' injuries.
