The Orange County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance identifying thirty individuals involved in a disruptive and potentially dangerous street takeover. According to a report by WESH, this incident, which unfolded on November 30 at the intersection of South John Young Parkway and Central Florida Parkway, saw a group setting a fire in the middle of the road and performing donuts with their vehicles around the blaze.
During the event, it is reported that behavior escalated with participants going so far as to harass innocent drivers, preventing them from freely passing, and in certain instances, climbing on and vandalizing other's cars. The sheriff's office released footage highlighting 30 individuals believed to be involved in these activities. In a video shared by WFTV, the faces of these individuals were marked for identification purposes.
Street racing and stunt driving incidents have surged alarmingly in recent years in Florida, prompting legal action. A law was passed two years ago, explicitly aiming to curb such dangerous behaviors. The Department of Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported a nearly threefold increase from just under 900 citations for related offenses in 2018 to roughly 2,500 last year. This year's count is already at 2,432.
Orange County tallied more than 1,700 citations, making it second only to Miami-Dade in frequency within the state. Community members who can provide any information are encouraged to confidentially contact Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS (8477).
