Amidst the festive air and cheers of the holiday season, the hustle of travel beats strong, particularly at Orlando International Airport (MCO), which witnessed its busiest day this Saturday. As families and individuals converged upon this travel hub, the airport prepared to handle over 192,000 arrivals and departures, according to a report by WESH. This bustling day comes at a peak moment, with Orlando hosting multiple college football bowl games and basking in the glow of being named one of the top 10 global travel destinations this holiday season.
Despite the complications imposed by storms across the southeast, the traffic through MCO has been met with positive sentiments; one traveler, Ervington Saulter, stated, as per WESH, "It actually has been the best travel experience that I have had within the last 5 years." However, not everyone was spared the storm's effects, as My News 13 reported that MCO faced over 550 delays and at least eight cancellations on Saturday.
Travelers like Krisann and Dave Foss, who were heading back to Seattle after a Disney Cruise, faced extended delays but took the disruptions in stride, "Kind of expecting it because we heard it was a busy travel day and just trying to make do," Krisann Foss expressed in a statement detailed by My News 13. The Foss' also offered some advice for fellow travelers heading into the new year, suggesting flexibility and being prepared to spend extra time at the airport.
MCO has enhanced its infrastructure to cater to the influx, rolling out additional parking options and focusing on passenger convenience with tech-savvy solutions like E-Pass and SunPass Plus for accessibility to expanded surface lots.
