The residents of Parker have spoken, and the consensus from the 2024 Community Survey Results is largely positive, with an emphasis on the high quality of life within the town. The triennial survey, a tool for gauging public opinion and setting priorities, has yielded insights that town officials intend to use to shape the direction of the community’s growth and services.
According to the Town of Parker, the survey, which saw a response rate of 14 percent, an improvement over the previous survey cycle, was carried out by Polco, a national research firm, it involved a carefully selected sample of 4,000 Parker residents and, notably, the option was open for additional citizen feedback through an open participation survey. Although the result showcased strong contentment with quality of life and local government services, it nonetheless highlighted concerns over the pacing of population and construction growth, with the percentage of those who feel the rhythm of expansion is “too fast” standing at a decided majority.
Key findings pointed to residents' perceptions of Parker as an excellent place to live and raise children, with 86% rating the quality of life as "excellent" or "good" and commendations for community safety, cleanliness, and fitness opportunities. Meanwhile, the "Talk of the Town" newsletter continues to serve as a critical source of local happenings and information for residents, maintaining its status as a valued communication channel in the town.
However, the survey was not without its criticisms, as voices within the community expressly identified growth-related issues, particularly the speed of population increase and new housing construction, reflecting a certain wariness about the rapid changes overtaking their living spaces with concerns about population growth and housing developments eclipsing those focused on retail expansion which was generally seen as satisfactory. This aspect of the feedback underscores a tension felt by residents as they grapple with Parker’s evolution as a community.
The town's elected officials, along with staff, reviewed these findings in depth during a fall work session, signaling a considered approach to future planning that accounts for the feedback received. The results published provide a roadmap for balancing the development against preserving the community atmosphere that residents prize. As Parker continues to grow, the desire for controlled progression mirrors a national conversation on sustainability and livability in American towns and cities.
