A tragic incident unfolded on the evening of December 23 as a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Mercedes-Benz SUV in Perris, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. The collision occurred at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and North Perris Boulevard, and officers were called to the scene at approximately 6:38 p.m. On arrival, they found the individual unresponsive and suffering from major injuries.
Despite prompt medical attention and transportation to a nearby hospital, the pedestrian — whose identity has not yet been released pending family notification — later died from the injuries. In a statement made by the Riverside Sheriff’s Office, it was reported that the driver of the SUV stayed at the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement authorities during their initial investigation.
The Perris Station Reconstruction Team took over the case, looking into the moments leading up to the tragic event. Early findings suggest that the SUV was traveling eastbound on the expressway as it entered the intersection, striking the victim who was in the midst of crossing the street. The investigation, still in progress, has so far indicated that neither drugs nor alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
Ramona Expressway between North Perris Boulevard and Ramona Crossings was consequently closed temporarily. The Riverside Sheriff's Department is seeking any additional information from the public regarding this fatal event.
