
A pedestrian accident disrupted traffic on Kūhiō Highway near the Wailua Golf Course on Monday. The collision, which happened at approximately 12:20 p.m., involved a 2016 Hyundai sedan striking a 25-year-old woman as she attempted to cross the highway, according to Kauai County.
The woman, whose identity has not been released and who reportedly has no permanent address, was immediately taken to the Wilcox Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition. The vehicle's driver, who was traveling northbound at the time of the incident, did not report any injuries. Following the crash, police closed the highway for around two hours to conduct an investigation.
As of now, there's no indication that speeding was a factor in the collision, and toxicology reports are still pending, the Kauaʻi Police Department stated. The incident is still under active investigation, and no further details have been disclosed at this time.
