The Penske Family Foundation has donated $3 million to support the development of Oakland County's Integrated Care Center. Announced by Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter, the center will open in February 2025 at the former site of the Sarah J. Weber Media Arts Academy in Pontiac. It will offer a range of services, including mental health care, to everyone, regardless of financial status, according to the Oakland County.
The Penske Foundation's support for a new mental health clinic in downtown Pontiac is important for the community, as the clinic has already served over 850 patients, many of whom speak Spanish, are women, or lack insurance. "The mental health crisis facing our community demands comprehensive action," said Coulter. Roger Penske, chairperson of Penske Corporation, highlighted the clinic's role, saying, "This clinic will provide a lifeline to individuals and families in Oakland County – including first responders - ensuring they have access to the resources and support they need during their most challenging moments." The clinic’s combination of primary and behavioral health services is also praised for improving patients’ overall well-being, as reported by the Oakland County.
The new clinic, supported by the Penske Family Foundation, will offer healthcare along with housing, nutrition, and job resources through the Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency. Deputy County Executive Madiha Tariq stated, “This is more than a health center - it’s a community hub where residents can access critical resources that promote stability and well-being.” The clinic is part of a larger effort to address mental health issues, as mentioned by Coulter in his 2023 State of the County address. With both public and private support, the Integrated Care Center will serve as an important resource for the community, as stated by the Oakland County.
