Travelers at Philadelphia International Airport experienced significant delays yesterday due to a power outage that primarily affected Terminal D, disrupting passengers and flight schedules. NBC Philadelphia reported that the outage affected flights from airlines such as United, Delta, JetBlue, Air Canada, and Alaska Air, advising passengers to check with their airlines prior to heading to the airport.

Power was eventually restored around 1:30 p.m., bringing terminal gates, ticketing systems, and concessions back online. The disruption occurred during the particularly busy Thanksgiving travel weekend. Despite the power being out for several hours and some families like James Coe and his children were stranded, impacting their travel plans since early morning, many passengers seemed to maintain a positive outlook, one passenger expressed that during the holiday season it's always "expected to expect the unexpected." Heather Redfern, Public Affairs Manager for the City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation, told CBS News Philadelphia that while there were no cancellations due to the power outage, it did slow the pace of holiday travel.

The cause of the power outage is currently under investigation. While it is known that the rest of the terminals at the airport had power, Terminal D's outage significantly upset the day's schedule for passengers and airlines alike. WHYY noted this incident comes during what was expected to be the busiest travel period since 2019 with projections of almost 95,000 travelers on Saturday and over 99,000 on Sunday, trailing the complexities of the situation for both the airport's staff and those trying to reach their destinations.

In a sentiment echoed by fellow travelers, Derek Rodgers, having left Los Angeles and experienced delays on his way to Philadelphia, summarised the ordeal by saying, "I am relieved to finally be here", according to his statement to NBC10, highlighting the toll such disruptions can take on those with tight schedules and short visits planned.
