In a recent demonstration of community spirit and support for law enforcement, Pierce County business owner Chuck Fain was recognized with the PCSD Impact Award for his noteworthy contribution to the local SWAT team. The award, presented by Sheriff Troyer, acknowledges Fain's significant role in enhancing officer safety through his investments of time and resources.
Back in 2015, Fain embarked on a meticulous project to construct an up-armored vehicle tailored for SWAT operations, inspired by a tragic incident that unfolded in California. The custom-built vehicle, which Fain donated, has been an asset to the team, particularly in dangerous scenarios involving armed and barricaded subjects. "This vehicle has played an integral role in keeping the SWAT Team safe when breaching doors, windows, and approaching armed and barricaded subjects," the Pierce County Sheriff's Department blog notes.
The scope of Fain's support didn't end with his initial donation. When the SWAT team considered painting the vehicle to match their fleet, Fain stepped up once again, dedicating his time and personal funds to the task. Recently, the SWAT team identified a need to modify the vehicle to tow or pull parked vehicles from hazardous environments. Without hesitation, Fain took upon the challenge of designing a new system to address this need.
This very week, the effectiveness of Fain's work was showcased during an operation where a rape suspect had barricaded himself inside his residence. The armored vehicle, with its newly designed system, was pivotal in the suspect's eventual surrender, "The suspect surrendered just as the vehicle’s boom was about to breach the front door," as described in the official account from the Sheriff's Department.
