In a blend of tradition and tech that could only come out of an era when branding knows no bounds, the Pop-Tarts Bowl, cosponsored by none other than GE Appliances, is serving up a trophy that doubles as a toaster – yes, you can toast your Pop-Tarts in it, an emblem that's both a nod to victory and practicality. According to ClickOrlando, this quirky yet functional trophy was unveiled in Winter Park ahead of the December 28 game featuring the Miami Hurricanes and the Iowa State Cyclones.
The trophy, introduced as a follow-up to last year's in-game attraction that included the Pop-Tarts Bowl's first-ever edible mascot, proves that sports celebrations can also think outside the (cereal) box. The Hurricanes and the Cyclones will clash for title honors and the chance to lay their hands on a victory trophy that can dish out hot pastries. "Our fans have made it clear: The Pop-Tarts Bowl isn't just another game, it's an experience," Pop-Tarts Bowl CEO Steve Hogan related in a statement obtained by PR Newswire, signaling the brands' intent to transform a gridiron battle into a memorable and multisensory affair.
The idea took off from the warm reception to last year's Pop-Tart-centric antics, and this year's trophy concept was brought to life by the engineering prowess of GE Appliances' FirstBuild micro-factory in Louisville, Kentucky, where they tackled the tasty task of embedding a toaster into a trophy. "When Pop-Tarts asked us to put a working toaster inside a football trophy, we were determined to figure it out," commented Todd Getz from GE Appliances during a statement reported by PR Newswire, giving insight into the creative process that led to this peculiar blend of domestic appliances and sports accolade.
The celebration of this unusual collaborative project reached its crescendo yesterday when representatives from both Pop-Tarts and GE Appliances christened the trophy, enjoying the first toasted Pop-Tarts from their shiny new hardware. Adding to the buildup for the big game, The 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl is slated to broadcast live on ABC, allowing viewers nationwide to witness the victorious team claim the innovative trophy come December 28 and possibly enjoy a Pop-Tart or two in the process, said the same PR Newswire report.
