The National Weather Service in Portland forecasts a wet end to the year, with showers likely today before 4 p.m. and a high near 47 degrees. According to the NWS update, the chance of precipitation is pegged at 70%, though only minimal amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are expected. Winds are mild, coming from the south-southwest around 6 mph.
As night falls, the skies will remain mostly cloudy, and the temperatures are expected to drop to a low around 36, with calm wind conditions. Moving into Tuesday, Portlanders should brace for more rain, set to begin after 4 p.m. Oddly enough, despite the precipitation, the snow level will hover at a relatively elevated 1900 feet. The likelihood of rain continues at 60%, and the day's forecast sees temperatures peeking in at a high near 44 with still winds.
The wet weather persists through New Year's Day, with rain likely and a potential accumulation of up to a quarter of an inch. The southeast wind will remain gentle, flowing around 6 mph, as temperatures climb close to 47 degrees. Projections indicate an 80% chance of rain for both Thursday and Friday, asserting a soggy entrance into 2025.
Looking ahead, the weekend doesn’t promise much reprieve from the rains either. A consistent pattern of cloudy skies and rain marks the forecast, with highs expected near 49 degrees and lows steadying around 43. "Rain likely," is the refrain for the foreseeable days, with Portlanders advised to prepare for continued precipitation as we transition into January.
