The City of Redmond is making moves toward an electrified future and wants the public's input on how to navigate the EV landscape. In a bid to ramp up its electric vehicle infrastructure, the city has launched an Electric Vehicle Ready Redmond Community Questionnaire. The results are intended to guide transportation and sustainability planning, all while keeping respondent details on the down-low.
More than 20% of the city’s vehicles are powered by electricity, which outpaces King County's 16% and Washington state's 9%. The city is peppered with nearly 40 public charging stations, with 15 electric vehicles in the city’s fleet and six publicly available charging stations at city facilities. Despite the push, a snag comes to light with the revelation from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory that 25% of Redmond's lot have no spot at their residence to power up their ride.
Redmond is inching closer to a future driven by clean energy. Amped up by the state mandate that will see all new passenger cars and trucks sold in Washington being electric starting in 2035, the City of Redmond is not merely reacting, but actively pursuing a sustainable transit system.
