A case of holiday heist turned repentance unfolded in Fort Collins as a stolen baby Jesus figurine was returned to its nativity scene, albeit with an apologetic twist. The Fort Collins Police Services had initially broadcasted the grim news that the centerpiece of the Old Town Square's Christmas display had been snatched, labeling the unknown perpetrator as a bit of a 'Grinch', according to KDVR. This had taken place early Sunday morning, behind the secure fencing erected to protect the traditional scene.
However, the narrative took an unexpected turn quickly thereafter when the figurine made a clandestine comeback. It was on Thursday that the Poudre Fire Authority Station #1 in Fort Collins happened to find the missing statuette, accompanied by a terse note of contrition. The individual confessed, "I am really sorry, I made a dumb mistake In [sic] the moment. It wont [sic] happen again," as reported by 9NEWS. Remarkably, the remorseful soul had managed to anonymously slip the religious icon back into its rightful place without drawing more attention to the deed.
The police search had initially been considered to still potentially be active as details regarding the suspect were scarce. Surveillance captured the suspect, attempting to conceal their features, accompanied by three others at the scene of the crime. Unfortunately, descriptions of the accomplices weren't immediately clear, rendering them ghostly accessories to the theft as mentioned by KFOR. With the return of the figurine, the investigators were left to ponder the identity and motivations of their seasonal scoundrel.
