A Rockville resident is facing charges for allegedly using a customer's credit card for unauthorized purchases, and local authorities are concerned that there could be more victims. Brooke Chambers, 30, has been charged with theft and credit card fraud following an investigation that traced multiple fraudulent transactions back to her, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
The investigation, conducted by the Montgomery County Department of Police- 4th District Patrol Investigations Unit (PIU), started after one customer reported their credit card missing after dining at Silo Falls Restaurant in July. The restaurant, where Chambers served as a manager, became the focus of the inquiry. Detectives found that Chambers made several unauthorized purchases with the card left mistakenly by the victim at the restaurant, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police report.
"During the investigation, it was determined that the purchases were made by Chambers," the police department stated in their press release. With the investigation ongoing, the officers are urging anyone with similar experiences to step forward and contact the 4th District PIU at 240-773-5476.
It is common for establishments where cards are frequently used and discarded to become breeding grounds for financial misdemeanors. As this case unfolds, the possibility of additional victims hangs over it, and community members who have patronized Silo Falls are advised to review their financial statements and report any irregularities.
