On the evening of December 14, a traffic stop in Roxbury led to an arrest for multiple firearm-related charges. The Boston Police Department reported that officers from District B-2 apprehended 37-year-old Daunte Beal of Dorchester after pulling over his vehicle for having its headlights off. According to the official statement released by the police, the stop occurred at the intersection of Dudley Street and Burrell Street.
After observing Beal's vehicle driving without headlights, officers initiated the stop. They approached his car following a parking maneuver and engaged Beal, who was then informed of the reason for the stop. "Officers made contact with the driver and sole occupant, later identified as Daunte Beal, and informed him of the reason for the stop," as the Boston Police Department noted. During the interaction, Beal recorded the proceedings with his cell phone and displayed signs of nervousness.
Beal's non-compliance during the officers’ request for him to exit the vehicle led to additional police units being called to the scene. "The officers requested additional units via radio while repeatedly instructing Beal to exit the vehicle," as per the Boston Police Department. His continued refusal to comply resulted in officers forcibly removing him from the vehicle following a brief struggle. Beal attempted to flee but was shortly detained.
In the course of the arrest, officials found a black Ruger LCP in Beal’s possession. The loaded handgun, with one round in the chamber and four in the magazine, was discovered in his pants pocket. "During a subsequent search, Officers recovered a firearm from a small satchel located in Beal’s pants pocket," as detailed by the police statement. Beal now faces numerous charges including carrying a firearm without a license and resisting arrest.
Beal is set to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. His charges include carrying a loaded firearm without a license for a second offense, unlawful possession of ammunition, firearm possession with one prior violent and/or drug crime, and resisting arrest. Moreover, he has been cited for a lights violation and failure to produce a driver's license.
