Due to worsening air quality in Sacramento, local authorities have extended the burn ban across Sacramento County. The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District announced a Stage 2 burn ban on Saturday, with fines of $50 for first-time offenders. This measure aims to address health concerns from the haze affecting the region, as captured by KCRA.
A ban on wood-burning sources like fireplaces and stoves is in place due to poor air quality. This measure aims to reduce pollution, especially in winter when wood burning contributes a lot to the air. Some locals have shared their thoughts. Janet Finkbeiner said, "I noticed the app on my phone that it's bad," and Allan Jacobsen explained, "You don't want the air quality being too bad. And we haven't had a lot of wind. So, you know, it kind of lingers around," as stated by KCRA and FOX40.
The air district reminds residents to "check before you burn." Following these rules helps reduce pollution and improve air quality. Cody Hess told KCRA that if people follow the guidelines, the bans could end sooner.
