The vibrant and joyful celebration of the Hmong New Year unfolded at the River Centre in Saint Paul, an event marking a significant cultural milestone for the Hmong community in Minnesota. The festivities drew not only locals celebrating age-old traditions but also the participation of the Saint Paul Police Department, which took the opportunity to engage with the community and also seek out potential candidates to join their ranks in the future.
According to a social media post from the Saint Paul Police Department, officers assigned to the event were "working the event and recruiting future police officers." The Hmong New Year celebration, with its deep roots and communal embrace, provided a space where law enforcement and the Hmong inhabitants of Saint Paul could strengthen their ties. The United Hmong Family Inc. especially recognized Hmong police officers for their invaluable contributions and service to the local community.
In the spirit of the new year, the police department solicited recruits but meanwhile basked in the collective warmth of the celebrations, extending wishes of "Happy New Year, Nyob Zoo Xyoo Tshiab!" to all in attendance. The Hmong New Year is observed as a time of renewal and introspection, a chance to honor ancestors and prepare for what lies ahead.
