A 55-year-old woman was fatally injured in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in San Antonio, as confirmed by the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD). The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, around 8:30 p.m., near the 1500 block of IH 35, close to the intersections of S San Marcos and Pendleton Avenue. According to a report by FOX San Antonio, the woman's vehicle initially veered off the road, leading to a collision with sand barrels and then to a subsequent impact with the concrete median.

The SAPD provided details that the victim was driving southbound on I-35 when she crashed into the sand barrels that separate the upper and lower levels of the highway. The force of the collision was seemingly strong enough to cause her vehicle to then strike the end of the concrete barriers. KSAT reported that the woman sustained serious bodily injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of now, the identity of the woman has not been released to the public, pending notification of next of kin. The SAPD is currently investigating to determine the precise cause of the accident. The area where the crash occurred is well-known to feature a division between the levels of I-35, with sand barrels serving as a protective measure to prevent vehicles from skidding into the concrete median.
