
A somber Christmas unfolded in Northeast D.C. after a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident on Christmas Eve. According to DCNewsNow, the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene at the intersection of 16th Street and North Carolina Avenue NE shortly after 7 p.m., where they found the man deceased.
In a detailed account, WUSA9 reported the abandoned vehicle was left behind by the driver who ran away on foot. Running away from the scene, the driver left behind the vehicle, and police are currently seeking this individual, though no description was available at the time.
While the identity of the pedestrian has not been publicly released, road closures ensued to facilitate the investigation. The 1500 – 1600 blocks of C St., NE were closed from 17th Street to 15th Street, impacting holiday travel, as noted by DCNewsNow.
Authorities are continuing to piece together the events of the tragic incident and have not made any arrests in the ongoing investigation. The suspect car, as per 7News, remained at the scene, and officials observed what appeared to be the suspect's vehicle. Police urge anyone with information to come forward and have advised the public to use alternate routes during the road closures.
