
A 62-year-old Seattle man was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross the street in Kent early yesterday morning. The incident occurred just after 6 a.m. at the intersection of 68th Avenue South and South 212th Street, Kent Police Department reported.
According to KIRO 7, several 911 calls were made by witnesses who saw the crash. When officers and medical teams arrived, they found the man unconscious in the street. Despite lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on scene. The Kent Police noted that the man "wasn’t using a crosswalk" when he attempted to cross the street.
The driver involved in the accident, a 46-year-old from Eatonville, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The Seattle Times reported that the driver did not show signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Kent Police Department's Traffic Unit is conducting a thorough investigation, collecting evidence and witness statements to ascertain the circumstances of the accident. As per a statement on the official Kent Police Department Facebook page, "it does not appear that driver intoxication was a contributing factor" in this event.
