A Sharon High School sophomore football player is in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury sustained during the school's Thanksgiving game. Rohan Shukla collapsed on the sidelines following the injury, prompting immediate response from on-site personnel. The game was subsequently terminated, as reported by NBC Boston.
Shukla was initially taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton before being transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. According to further details provided by WCVB, an online fundraiser shared by local authorities and the football team quickly raised nearly $26,000 to help support him and his family. The fundraiser stated that Shukla required brain surgery following the incident.
Sharon Superintendent Peter Botelho and Sharon High Principal Kristen Keenan expressed their concern, stating, "Our thoughts and prayers are going out to Rohan, his parents Abhishek and Deepika, and his twin brother Naman during this incredibly difficult time," in a joint statement obtained by NBC Boston. They also mentioned that the school respects the family's need for privacy at this time.
In addition to the medical updates, school officials have announced that counselors will be made available to support the student body. "While offering our heartfelt support, we respect the family's privacy and consideration. As we learn more about Rohan's condition, we will share it with our concerned community as appropriate," officials wrote in the statement shared by WCVB. The community has been shaken by this event, and the call for emotional support underscores the impact of such traumatic events on young athletes and those connected to them.
