In a recent court decision, a Shelby County judge has drastically increased the bond for Adam Lambert, who faces charges of aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect. Initially held on a $200,000 bond, Lambert's request for a reduction to $100,000 was not only denied, but reversed; resulting in his bond soaring to $1 million. According to Action News 5, the prosecutor highlighted Lambert's criminal history, which spans four states with misdemeanor convictions.
Lambert's charges relate to a horrific case in which a 2-year-old girl sustained extensive injuries, including second-degree burns, a black eye fractured bones, and more. The gravity of the case was underscored by Assistant District Attorney Tanisha Johnson who, in her argument, emphasized both the severity of the alleged crimes, and the strength of the evidence pointing to a high likelihood of conviction. Lambert, denying that he caused the injuries, acknowledged being aware of some of them yet neglecting to secure medical aid for the child.
Judge Lee Coffee, presiding over the hearing, found the nature of the allegations particularly disturbing. "Basically butchered," was the phrase Judge Coffee used to describe the state of the young victim, as mentioned in the report by FOX13 Memphis.
Complementary details from WREG News specify that Lambert's co-defendant, identified as the child's mother, was present at the hearing upon her attorney's request possibly, to witness the implications of such a bond review. Since Lambert's arrest in July, he has been detained at Shelby County Jail, and with the newly set bond of $1 million, it is likely he will remain there pending trial.
