Following a harrowing two months of medical treatment after a critical motorcycle crash, Shelby County Sheriff's Office Deputy Samuel Lilley has been transferred to a rehabilitation facility. The crash incident occurred on October 15 when Lilley was on his way to assist another deputy, as reported by Action News 5. The urgency of his endeavor was underscored by the gravity of the accident, wherein he was struck by a vehicle as another car collided with his motorcycle on Houston Levee Road near Highway 64.
The circumstances of the accident were closely tracked by local media, with WREG detailing that two SCSO motorcycle deputies were injured in separate incidents less than two miles apart on US-64 in Lakeland. In Lilley's case, his injuries were so severe that he was initially placed on life support when taken to Regional One Hospital, signaling an intensively challenging path to recovery.
In the time since the accident, there has been an outpouring of support for Lilley. Sheriff Floyd Bonner, Jr. was quoted expressing his gratitude: "The dedication and concern that the men and women of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the citizens of Shelby County, have poured out for Sergeant Lilley has been heartwarming, and I ask that we all keep him in our thoughts and prayers," a sentiment gathered by multiple sources including Eastern Progress.
The family of Deputy Lilley has expressed their gratitude towards the community for the "love and support" received during what has been a strenuous period. According to Action News 5, they continue to request that prayers be directed towards Lilley's strength and healing as he faces the next step in his recovery – a testament to a collective hope for a steadfast journey back to health.
