A 45-year-old Shelby Township woman was killed in a head-on collision Monday evening on Hayes Road in Macomb Township, as confirmed by the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. The woman, identified as Vanessa Marie Savitsky, died after a southbound white Dodge Ram crossed the median and crashed into her vehicle, a white Mazda. The Detroit News reported that the incident occurred around 7:27 p.m., and her car was overturned on the grass.
The male teen driver of the Dodge truck, whose name has not been released, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized following the crash. He was reportedly discharged from the hospital last night and the investigation remains active.
During the aftermath, witnesses and residents rushed to aid the victims in the collision. Manuela Valenti, a bystander caught in the moment told FOX 2 Detroit, "It was hard the fact that we couldn’t do much for this woman to save her life." Valenti and others witnessed the distressing scene where they initially feared there were more passengers involved due to the presence of children's blankets in Savitsky's vehicle.
