A man wanted for attempted murder in South Carolina has been apprehended in Gwinnett County following a high-speed chase. Emmanuel Williams, 20, allegedly opened fire on his girlfriend, her mother, and their 1-year-old child during a domestic dispute. The chase, which briefly hit speeds of 80 mph, ended in Williams' arrest last month. "During the altercation, the boyfriend, Emmanuel Williams, pulled out a gun and started shooting at the victims," Seneca Police Chief Casey Bowling said, according to FOX 5.
The pursuit began after the Gwinnett County Police Department was alerted by Seneca authorities to be on the lookout for the suspect, who was believed to be fleeing in a stolen vehicle. Gwinnett officers utilized Flock cameras to spot the black SUV Williams was reportedly driving. "Our officers quickly utilized our Flock system. We have cameras everywhere. We were able to identify and locate the vehicle near I-85 and Sugarloaf Parkway," Cpl. Juan Madiedo of the Gwinnett County Police Department was quoted saying to FOX 5. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but Williams dangerously crossed all lanes of traffic and attempted to rapidly escape.
Williams was eventually stopped using a PIT maneuver at the intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Duluth Highway, as bodycam footage revealed the SUV rocking onto two wheels before crashing. After being checked for injuries at a local hospital, Williams was transported to Gwinnett County Jail. There, he faces multiple charges, including driving without a seatbelt, felony fleeing to elude a police officer, and reckless driving, among others. He is being held with a bond set at $11,700, as reported by Atlanta News First.
The events have invoked a strong response from law enforcement, with Chief Bowling emphasizing the gravity of the situation. "To have a child shot is horrific. You never ever want to see a child hurt in any crime," Bowling told FOX 5. Williams is expected to be extradited back to South Carolina to face additional charges related to the shooting.
