An 18-year-old named Daniel Jones was fatally shot in South Fulton, a tragedy that took place early Tuesday morning. Jones, remembered by his family as a vibrant and spirited young man who loved music, was found dead in a driveway on Elkmont Ridge. His plans to start welding school in the spring will now remain unfulfilled. "He was very young. He wasn't even 21. Life is very valuable, and everyone deserves a chance to live life and experience different things," Gabrielle Fordjour, Jones's cousin, told FOX 5 Atlanta in an interview.
Meanwhile, the 16-year-old who was also shot and found wounded in a nearby living room, has been charged with Jones's murder. In critical condition himself, the juvenile has refrained from publicly revealing his own narrative, as police are investigating to utterly unravel the circumstances behind the incident. He faces charges including murder, armed robbery, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. No other details regarding the shooting have been disclosed by the authorities.
The legacy of Daniel Jones, as his family and big cousin Gabrielle Fordjour emphasized, was one of joy and aspiration, tarnished by senseless violence. A vigil Wednesday night brought together family and friends all trying to process the magnitude of their loss. His mother recalled the happiness of their recent cruise in October. "He definitely was the life of the party," April Harvey said to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Amid the sorrow and the remembrance, there is a resounding call for change. "The gun violence in our community has to stop. The senseless killings have to stop. Our young men we have to do better, want more and value life more," Fordjour stated in a FOX 5 Atlanta interview. Concerned citizens and those seeking to aid in the ongoing investigation are encouraged to directly contact South Fulton police or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS.
