A fire broke out at Carangi Baking Company in South Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon, affecting both the bakery and a nearby residential building. The blaze began around 2 p.m., sending heavy smoke into the air. Emergency responders arrived quickly and were able to control the fire within an hour. The bakery is located at 2650 South Iseminger Street, as stated by CBS News Philadelphia.

A fire badly damaged Carangi Baking Company, a well-known bakery that has been part of the community since 1996, just before the holiday season. Regular customer Justin Haskell said, "With it being the holiday season, seeing these guys lose their business right now, you know, when it's supposed to be the time they cash in for all year round, you know what I mean? It's heartbreaking for them. They're good guys." The fire also affected a nearby home, with one neighbor saying, "There was all smoke up there, and I'm screaming for them to come down, and then finally I had to get out of the house. I couldn't stay in there because the smoke was so bad," according to further details provided by FOX 29.

NBC Philadelphia reported that the cause of a fire at a building housing Carangi Baking Company on the first floor and apartments on the second is under investigation.
