Attention, St. Augustine residents: A community recycling event is scheduled for next Wednesday, January 8, 2025, according to a recent update from the City of St. Augustine and St. Johns County Utilities. Those looking to dispose of specific recyclable materials can head to either of the two designated drop points: 25 W. Castillo Drive at Francis Field downtown, or 840 West 16th Street on Anastasia Island, behind the SJC Parks and Recreation Office. The event will run from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Before you take your old electronics, batteries, or spaghetti-splattered cooking oil down to the recycling event, be sure to remember that paper shredding services will not be available. The effort appears to be a push to keep harmful materials out of landfills and to ensure they are properly processed, a crucial step following the holiday season—with its notorious waste footprint. Items accepted on the day include used cooking oil, outdated and broken electronics, besides, holiday light strands.
Moreover, for residents looking to say goodbye to their Christmas trees, the city has made arrangements for curbside pick-up of unadorned holiday trees. The tree collection will begin on the same day, with trees being picked up alongside regularly scheduled yard waste collections. However, take note that light strands should not be discarded in household recycling bins.
