After shuttered doors and operational turmoil, St. Luke's Behavioral Health Center in Phoenix has reopened, albeit with limitations. As reported by ABC15, College Health Enterprises, which now manages the facility, confirmed that the hospital resumed services as of Wednesday. With one 26-bed unit open, the center is re-entering Phoenix's healthcare scene, offering adult inpatient care, including court-ordered treatment.
Reeling from issues that led to its initial closure—non-functioning cooling systems and significant health and safety concerns—St. Luke's has seen extensive intervention. According to an ABC15 report, all HVAC and chiller systems have been repaired or replaced under the new oversight. College Health Enterprises has gained a new permit and license for the operation of the kitchen, effectively addressing past criticisms and aiming to restore community confidence in its capabilities.
The journey toward reopening has been a collaborative one. As College Health Enterprises moves forward with the Phoenix community served by the hospital, they've received "unwavering support and technical assistance" from the Arizona Department of Health Services, in a statement obtained by ABC15. Furthermore, city and fire officials played a pivotal role, ensuring that the necessary safety measures were firmly in place before giving the green light for the facility's limited reactivation.
"What we hope to do is to regain our status as the leading behavior health facility in this part of the city," Steven Scott, the CEO of St. Luke's, told 12news. With extensive funding sunk into the overhaul of the facility's problematic areas, Scott emphasized the facility's pledge to greater transparency and accountability, stating, "You regain the community's trust, one family member and one patient at a time, so it's going to be a long haul."
