The Surprise community is in a state of mourning following the death of its stalwart City Councilmember, Ken Remley, who represented District 4 for eight years. Remley, who was 80, passed away on December 23, just days before his final term was set to conclude on December 31, as reported by the City of Surprise.
Mayor Skip Hall reflected on Remley’s unwavering commitment to his constituents in a statement saying, “Ken was passionate about doing the right thing for the community. He was always willing to ask the tough questions to ensure he was making the most informed decisions, and there was never a doubt how much he cared for the people of Surprise.”
An established member of the Surprise community since moving to the city in 2004, Remley was not only a dedicated public servant but also an active participant in local organizations. His service extended beyond City Council to his role on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and his 13-year tenure as Treasurer for the Litchfield Manor Homeowners Association.
During his tenure on the City Council, Remley aimed to bolster the local economy by attracting high-quality employers and sustaining cost-effective city services, all while cultivating a sense of community pride. Details regarding his life and contribution to Surprise can be found on the City of Surprise's official website.
