
Michael Diaz, 42, and Juan Carlos Rosa-Torres, 42, are facing charges after a police chase ended with the discovery of nearly 500 bottles of stolen wine. The incident started in Friendswood, where police responded to a theft at an H-E-B store. Their investigation linked the suspects to other similar thefts in the area, according to Click2Houston.
The Friendswood Police Department alerted the Katy Police Department after locating the suspects, Rosa-Torres and Diaz, in the Katy area. The two led officers on a 50-mile chase before being caught in Colorado County. Diaz was charged with theft, and Rosa-Torres faces additional charges for evading arrest. Both are in custody at the Fort Bend County Jail, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
Detectives found 498 stolen bottles of wine in a vehicle, linking the thefts to various retailers. The investigation started with a theft at H-E-B, which helped authorities recover more stolen goods. H-E-B said, "We do have internal protocols that help mitigate crime and assist local law enforcement. We are glad the information we provided from our single incident led Friendswood PD to recover additional product stolen from various retailers across the city." The Friendswood and Katy police departments are continuing to investigate and identify other affected stores, as stated by Click2Houston.
